New Camera

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

Well, I finally broke down and bought myself a Digital SLR camera. I bought Blair a Canon 20D for her high school graduation so I was seriously considering Canon. In high school I had a Canon AE1, but it was stolen my senior year. After careful consideration this time I decided to go with the Nikon D200 for 3 primary reasons:

  1. Environmental seals.
  2. Auto ISO.
  3. Viewfinder grid.

I bought it from Adorama and received it on Friday. I’ve purchased plenty of supplies for Blair’s photography class from them and have been very happy so far. They did call me to try and sell me some extra stuff, but it was by no means a high pressure sales pitch. I politely said no and had no problems. I’d definately recommend them.

After a couple days shooting with the camera I can say I’m very pleased. I love the Auto ISO feature and am very happy about the decision to go with Nikon. You can see some sample pics here in my gallery. The sun didn’t cooperate that well this weekend, so the photos aren’t all that spectacular. But I did have fun. I spent some time at East Beach on Galveston Island and also managed to get to Brazoria Wildlife Refuge. A couple pics are from my back deck. The bluebonnets are just starting to bloom and I’m hoping to take a little road trip next weekend to do some shooting.
